AI-mediated communication
AI is increasingly mediating communication between humans. This ranges from Large Language Models (LLMs) writing emails on our behalf, to the prevalence of beauty or youth-enhancing filters on platforms like Instagram or TikTok. These tools have the potential to enhance the human communication, making it more efficient (e.g. clear or concise), more expressive (e.g. eloquent or beautiful), and more inclusive (e.g. facilitation eye contact by those uncomfortable with it). But AI-mediated communication may also be used for deception and manipulation. This project explores how AI-mediated communication may alter human communication, and explores the tradeoffs involved in introducing such powerful technologies.
